One of our primary goals at Heritage Oak School is to have a community of committed parents who want to provide the best possible training and instruction for their children. Our purpose is to support the parents in their desire to have a school for their children that is an extension of the Godly morals and biblical principles already being taught in the home.
Qualifications for Admittance:
Christian:
Both parents adhere to HOS Doctrinal Statement which will signify that both parents are born again. They have declared in word and deed that Jesus Christ is their Savior and are working to submit to His Lordship in every aspect of their lives. This will include the belief that the Bible is the Word of God, is without error, and that it speaks to our lives in all things, including parenting. As a part of their Christian walk the parents will attend a church on a regular basis. A letter of recommendation from the pastor will evidence this.
Like-mindedness:
Both parents believe in the pursuit of moral excellence for their children. They should believe that their children should be morally naïve when it comes to worldly wisdom. Their children should not have worldly knowledge greater than that of the HOS student body. Like-mindedness will be evidenced by both parents taking the Along the Virtuous Way class, agreeing with its principles and applying those Biblical concepts taught in the class. AVW is a 6-8 week class of two-hour sessions once a week and is a primary behavioral tool upon which HOS was developed, based upon Scriptural truth. This program is used both at home and in the HOS classrooms, keeping parents and teachers like-minded.
Academic Pursuit:
HOS attempts to uphold a high academic standard. It has been found that most students transferring to HOS from other schools (or a home school) find the work and the pace far more rigorous than what they are used to; therefore, children applying to the school may be asked to take a grade placement and/or a developmental readiness test.
Community:
We at HOS desire to come alongside the parents in the education of their children. We consider ourselves a community of like-minded families working together in the education and parenting of our children. We are more than just a school. To ensure a ‘good fit’ within the community, the HOS Board interviews all applying families, with the children being interviewed separately from the parents.
Additional Points:
All of the steps of the enrollment procedure must be followed to gain admittance.
Appeals from incoming families regarding the completion of AVW may be submitted to the Board at the interview.
Parents seeking admission for their children should agree with the mission and purpose statement of the school and should have a basic understanding of the classical teaching method. The parents should be willing to cooperate with all the written policies of Heritage Oak School. This is most important in the area of discipline, schoolwork standards, dress code policies as well as active communication with the respective teacher(s) and administration.
We ask the parents to be completely involved in the education of their children, including working at the school. Parents will be expected to work at the school a minimum of 3-4 hours per week in an assigned Parent Job. They also will be required to attend all scheduled Parent Meetings.
Students seeking admission are evaluated on the basis of their desire to attend Heritage Oak School, admission questionnaires, interviews, references, report cards, and potential to perform satisfactorily at Heritage Oak School. Students with less than a “C’ average in their primary academic subjects may have difficulty in attaining a satisfactory level of academic achievement. The first semester is considered to be a trial period for all new students.
We are not equipped with the resources to serve children with Learning Disabilities or who need special educational programs.
