We believe that the implementation of Prescribed Dress Guidelines at Heritage Oak School will place emphasis on the character development of the student rather than on external appearance. The Christian message is a call to a lifestyle that is different from the norm of society. In deciding to adopt a prescribed dress program, our goal is to provide modest, functional school clothes, centered around cleanliness, neatness, good taste and safety while being affordable to all families.
Our goal is to have clear, concise and easy-to-understand wardrobe guidelines and information. We encourage parents to establish these standards in their children’s daily dress and grooming, aiding them in the formation of right habits. It is our desire to see the students of Heritage Oak School reflect these standards, taking pride in their appearance and their school. Thank you in advance for your close attention to these guidelines and for your support.

Free - Dress Day Guidelines for Secondary Students: We want to commend our Student Council for doing such a great job in coming up with the guidelines for the “Free – Dress Day.” We want to encourage you to continue being faithful in the practical ways God uses you. We know that you know what God requires and are excited to see what He can do in and through you. We are able to be a light in this darkened world even by what we wear.
What is modesty anyway? Modesty is having or showing a moderate or humble opinion of one’s own value, abilities, achievements: it is unassuming: it is behaving according to a standard of what is proper and decent: it is showing purity by not displaying one’s body to bring unnecessary attention to oneself.
To dress modestly and decently implies that clothing must provide sufficient covering for the body so that you and/or others would not be embarrassed or tempted to sin in any way. Our outward appearance can be a testimony to what God has done in our heart. Since Christ is the Lord of our bodies, we should have a desire to honor Him in what we wear. Just as faith in God produces good works, being humble and having a gentle spirit can produce modesty. Our appearance is a silent witness of our Christian identity. May it always tell others that we live to glorify God – not ourselves.
Philippians 4:9 says, “Finally brethren whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue, and if there is anything praiseworthy, meditate on these things.” If we could just remember this verse and apply it in all that we do, we would not even need the following list!
Dress code guidelines:
- All clothing, jewelry and make – up should be God – honoring, school appropriate and
- All clothing should fit properly to meet guideline #1.
- Any shoe may be worn except flip – flops, which are too casual for the school environment, as well as posing a safety hazard for the wearer.
- Hats and sunglasses are permitted outside only. While inside, hats should be taken off and sunglasses should be stored in a case, backpack, or locker.
- Whatever you do – do it to the glory of God. If you are unsure about it, DON'T WEAR IT!
Violations of the Dress Code are as follows:
- Pants, shorts, skirts, etc. which end above the top of the knee
- Pants which allow underwear to be seen
- Tight-fitting clothing
- Shirts which allow the midriff, cleavage or underwear to be seen
- Ungodly logos or designs
- Hats on heads inside a building
- Sunglasses on inside a building
- Flip flops
Free Dress Day will be every other Thursday. Violations of the above guidelines will be handled on an individual basis, with that student losing free – dress privileges for the following month. Student Council members, as well as all Secondary Students, are expected to be self – disciplined with the free – dress privilege.
Formal Attire Guidelines
Our goal, as always, is to make sure that we honor the Lord, whether in speech, action or dress. For this reason the following requirements for formal attire are made and apply to all who attend. The ladies in attendance must have dresses pre-approved. These guidelines apply to events such as, but not limited to, High School Formal Event, graduation, parties, etc.
Ladies: All dresses must be at least knee length. This includes slits in dresses, which are to be no higher than the knee. If the dress has straps, the straps must be a minimum of 1 inch wide to conceal undergarments. Halter style dresses are acceptable. The back of the dress should be no lower than the bottom of the shoulder blade. Strapless, low-cut, and bare midriff dresses are not acceptable.
Gentlemen: Dress pants with a belt, dress shirt, tie, and jackets are preferred, but not required. No oversized pants.
Any escort from outside the school must adhere to the above dress code.
