Elementary

Elementary students attend school three days per week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The parents will home school their children on Tuesday and Thursday. The parent will be given a lesson plan for the day and will complete the lessons with their student and return the completed work the following class day. Kindergarten and first grade students will be dismissed from school at noon on Fridays.

Secondary

Jr. High & High school students attend school five days per week, Monday through Friday. Students have 7 periods a day with a 15 minute morning break and half hour lunch break. Students are expected to complete all homework assignments promptly and return their assignments to school the next day, or when due.

Class Sizes

Elementary class size is limited to 15 students and secondary classes are limited to 20 students. Some combination classes that consist of more than one grade may exceed the above amount and therefore a full time teacher’s aide will be in the classroom as well.

Curriculum

Since we are a classical and Christian school, we use textbooks, curriculum guides and methodologies that are appropriate to the Trivium. That does not limit us to Christian publishers alone, because every subject, regardless of the text or guide, is taught from a Christian world view. Christianity and the Bible are integrated into the entire curriculum, as well as being a course of study K - 12.  Our reading program is phonics-based.  While we encourage and insure a high level of academic achievement in traditional subjects such as math, English, social studies, languages, and science, we also require study in Latin, apologetics and rhetoric. 

Also taught is the acceptance of responsibility on the part of the student for both their academic studies and their actions toward others.  The minimal goal of our curriculum is to develop an intelligent, evangelical, gentle but stouthearted student.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Music and Art are incorporated into the elementary classes and secondary schedules. We offer a Drama Program for the secondary students during the 2nd trimester. Secondary students are invited to attend the various socials planned by the Student Council throughout the year. Field trips are scheduled throughout the year for all grades.

Yearly Schedule

We have a traditional yearly schedule. School begins the day after Labor Day in September and continues until the middle of June to meet the minimum-day requirement by the state of California. We take a three week break at Christmas and one week break for Easter. We observe other holidays throughout the school year.

Daily Schedule

School begins at 8:20am with all students meeting in the Chapel for flag salute and prayer. School dismissal is at 3:30pm.

Chapel Schedule

Elementary students meet for Chapel each Friday and secondary students meet each Monday.

Facilities

Heritage Oak School is a ministry of the Country Oaks Baptist Church. We share most of the 19,000 square foot facilities including classrooms, meeting rooms, kitchen facilities, and the playground area.

Dress Code

We believe that the implementation of a dress code at Heritage Oak School will place emphasis on the character development of the student rather than external appearance. Our goal is to have clear, concise and easy to understand wardrobe guidelines and information. It is our desire to see the students of Heritage Oak School reflect these standards, taking pride in their appearance and school. Students wear uniforms at all times during school hours and off campus while on school-sponsored activities. Secondary students also have a P.E. uniform. Prescribed dress clothing must be purchased from the Dennis Uniform Company. Clothing can be purchased at the school on the Dennis Uniform Day once a year (July) or by phone, website, and the Los Angeles store. More information is available through the school office.
